commercial center | heart of town
Hamburg's elite promenade has always been about seeing and being seen. In the old days, unmarried dames, also known as "Jungfern" or "old maids", were taken for strolls along here by their families in the hopes of finding a charming nobleman.
Today, Jungfernstieg has become both the citys treasured shopping mile and meeting point in one. Alex restaurant at the Alster Pavilion invites you to a coffee and snacks, together with a terrific view of the Inner Alster (Binnenalster). On hot days, a small break with a cold ice cream along the banks of the Alster Lake is just right.
Renowned shopping temples - such as the Alsterhaus, Hamburger Hof and Europa-Passage cater to the somewhat lighter purse, while the Neue Wall street, which starts at Jungfernstieg, is home to boutiques offering all the most sophisticated brands and fashion labels. If youve chosen one of our holiday apartments in the city centre, the location will either be a blessing for your fashion passion or a curse of shopping temptations.
